A couple of weeks ago we had Leila's luau-themed sixth birthday party (the exact theme she told me she wanted it to be a year ago!)
One of the major benefits of having a child who knows exactly what type of party she wants a full year in advance, is that when we were in Hawaii over the summer I bought all sorts of things (mostly for the goodie bags)
About a month before the party I contacted my friend Heather of River & Bridge and told her a few details: luau theme, pink and orange for the main colors and Leila really wanted a hula girl on the invitations. Heather is amazing and made the absolute PERFECT invitations, amazing coordinating printables and thank you notes! (Now available for purchase!)
We had a hula girl planned for a big chunk of the party, but being cold and flu season she got sick a few days before.....
Oh, well! Instead we had a glitter tattoo station, which Tony was in charge of and he did a super impressive job! All sorts of cool color combos:

And a limbo competition!
....also, lots of random playing outside, Hawaiian tunes and what's a party without an obscene amount of food?
I've learned my strengths and weaknesses, and one of my major weaknesses is baking. Fortunately, a fellow firefighter wife has an awesome business, Lizzy D Minis and she took care of all of the treats - pineapple coconut cake pops dipped in dark chocolate, made to look like pineapples, mini s'more cupcakes with sugar flowers on top and dipped oreo pops. Everything was gorgeous and super delicious!
