Almost two years ago (five days before Christmas) my husband's station responded to a house fire. They were among the first into the blaze. A man, covered in soot cried out "my grandson is still inside." Tony ran back into the burning house, found the little boy and pulled him out. {Warning: this doesn't have a happy ending} Although the paramedics on scene tried their hardest, the poor little boy was pronounced pulse-less.
I am so proud of him for going back into the fire, and tonight he and the other responders were recognized at an award ceremony, and given a special pin to wear on their Class-A uniforms for the remainder of their career. I know it's part of the job, but I'm still so proud. I'm so thankful for my husband, and all of the firefighters willing to risk their lives for ours on a daily basis.
{And just because Leila's eyes look so pretty!}
PS - this post was much more gushy and gave a lot more details, but my hubby said it was embarassing. Oy!
So this totally made me teary. :) give Tony a high five for me. He's definitely one of the good ones.
