We started the day at our house with some hors d'oeuvres and a bottle of red to kick things off. After a bit of pre-partying we headed (in my mom's giant daycare van, with Tony as the designated driver!) off to Concannon - one of my favorites. We tried a great variety of wines, but what was really cool is that we got to try a Petite Sirah that won't be released for another year straight out of the barrel. We got to try it two different ways - one was aged in a "neutral" barrel, that has been used several times, therefore it didn't release any of the oak flavors into the wine. We also got to try it out of a new barrel, which definitely had some oakiness to it. I preferred from the neutral barrel, while Kelley liked it from the new barrel. No one else liked it at all.
After Concannon we went to Rios-Lovell where it seemed like they poured us over twenty different wines. They were all delicious, but their California Champagne was amazing. Being that I looooove a good champagne, I brought home a bottle. By this time we were feeling good, but needed some substance in our bellies so we headed to Garré for lunch. I had the duck confit, which was delicious! After lunch we tasted some of Garré's wines.
After Garré we had one last stop - Fenestra. They were having their "Spring Fling" event and were pouring (at least) twenty different wines...no exaggeration! Everything was delicious, but after Fenestra we were all feeling pretty tired. We headed back to our place for a few more hors d'ouevres and a movie.
It was a really great day with great wine and great friends! Here are some pictures from the day:
